Professor of Musculoskeletal and Surgical Science and Rosetrees RCSEng Director, Surgery and Interventional Trials Unit [SITU NDORMS], University of Oxford

David Beard is Professor of Musculoskeletal and Surgical Sciences and the Rosetrees/RCS Director of the Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU-NDORMS) at the University of Oxford. In this role he is responsible for evaluating complex and surgical healthcare interventions as Unit Head, Chief Investigator and Chair of various international, NIHR and Charity committees. He is a research member of Wolfson College and Professorial Fellow of Kellogg College with close links to the Royal College of Surgeons (England). Remaining an active researcher in MSK, orthopaedics and plastics (>300 publications with H index 53) he also has interests in trials methodology – including placebo-control designs and outcome measurement. Initially qualified as a physiotherapist he is clinically active as a specialist practitioner (complex knee) in South Wales.
